Our Story

How Tonic Lab Was Born

At Tonic Lab, we’re experts in Marketing, Digital and Design recruitment. We’re NZ owned and operated - our HQ is based in Wellington but we work on roles across the country. We pride ourselves on providing an exceptional customer experience to both our clients and our candidates.

Marketing, Design and Digital Leaders want to find great people for their teams but often feel like recruiters don’t truly understand the roles so the quality of candidates they see isn’t aligned with what they truly need.

Marketing, Design and Digital teams often have ambitious to-do lists, outstanding projects and a desire to try new ways of working or technologies, but often don’t have the resource or skills in-house to deliver it all.

Businesses want to bring specific marketing, design or digital expertise in-house but don’t know how, or what they specifically need, so are forced to outsource to expensive agencies or hire senior marketers at a premium cost.

Finding high quality marketers, designers and digital people to fill short term, last minute resourcing gaps is difficult.

We're a brand founded by marketers

We started Tonic Lab based on our frustrations at battling to find the best people for our teams. As marketers, in the past we had a hard time finding great people and we wanted to help solve this by providing a genuine brand that actually has technical knowledge to connect people.

Lisa

Director / MARKETER

Lisa has spent most of her career in Marketing, so has likely worked in or hired for a lot of the roles we recruit for in the past. Her most recent role before starting Tonic Lab was a Global Marketing role based in Amsterdam, leading internal Marketing & Digital teams across 23 countries, delivering projects like a rebrand, global website rollout and the set up of a lead generation team. Prior to this she's worked in a range of B2C and B2C marketing roles for some of NZ's most well known brands. As well as marketing, Lisa also worked as a recruitment consultant in Tokyo, Japan for Michael Page.

Tonic Lab brings together the marketing & recruitment connecting amazing marketers, designers and digital people to amazing teams!

Outside of work you will never see Lisa without Archie (her border collie) by her side, she loves to travel, do F45 HIIT training and spend time with family and friends.

Ways Tonic Lab Operates

Sustainably

We're almost 100% paperless

We have digital contracts and online signing for both our clients and contractors via Hellosign to help save on paper and printing.

We print 2 sided Greyscale

On the odd occasion we do print, we have a rule of greyscale, 2-sided printing only.

We Co-work

We work in a co-working space that lets us share the costs of electricity, office supplies, and wifi, helping to keep energy costs down.

Lights Out

Each night, the last person to leave the office ensures that all lights are turned off. We also turn off our neon Tonic Lab sign every night to save on power and be more energy efficient.

We Recycle

In chose our co-working space based on their sustainable practices which includes the use of Method Recycling Bins, sustainable office supplies and energy saving lighting.

We Travel But...

...whenever possible, we host meetings outside of Wellington on digital tools like Zoom to help save on travel costs. When we do have to attend a meeting face-to-face we utilize Air New Zealand's carbon emission give-back scheme on our flights.

Locally We...

...travel for meetings too, but our first option is always to walk. When the distance is a bit longer, we'll grab the office Snapper card and jump on the bus. If it's further away, and we do need to take a car, we'll always car pool there.

We're careful with our meetings

We'll try and have these in the offices of our clients or at our own offices, so we can make a tea or coffee using our own supplies and reduce our general consumption of goods.
